Returned Rapids River Map Supplement

Over the past 20 years, there has been a great amount of change in middle to lower Cataract Canyon. From Imperial Canyon (river mile 200) and below, rapids that haven’t been seen in decades are now showing their teeth. Some of this is influenced by the current level of Lake Powell, the amount of the river’s discharge, and how much the river has carved back into the pre-dam historic river channel.

Currently (as of August 1, 2020), there are rapids in the lower part of Cataract Canyon that are not on any modern published river maps.

We are offering a river map supplement as a way to both inform river runners of what to expect and try to help us all speak the same location-related language.

We hope to keep this updated with current rapid information, campsite conditions, and what to expect at the North Wash Boat Ramp.

Download the current map in pdf format (current version: June 6, 2021).
