A stop across from Clearwater in 2013

There is something special about Clearwater Canyon… There has always been something special about that canyon.

Its simple beauty has long been noted and recorded since at least Powell’s expeditions, the Kolb Brothers, and even after the reservoir. It has always been worth a stop.

The dam backed river water up into the canyon so far that it could take a 3-5 minute motor from the main Colorado stem to the high water mark / dory parking spot (shown in these photos).

From here, a group could hike above the “lake zone” and hear trickling water flowing over the limestone.
